Do you know that annoying feeling when after only your second day back on snow your brand new goggles have a scratch? We know that feeling all too well. And that is exactly why one evening we had the idea to do something about it. Continue reading below to discover the story.

The Beginning

Every year, everything seems to get more and more expensive. From the lift tickets, to the outerwear, to the skis and above all, quality ski & snowboard goggles. Since we had a habit of skipping lectures for powder days and accumulated a healthy number of ski days per year, we often broke several pairs of goggles per season. The goggles were of course financed from our already tight student budget - a painful but necessary expense.

This threatened our love of freeriding and we decided to get to the bottom of it and find a solution. After countless hours of research and discussions with experts, we realised the many obstacles the retail stores faced, as well as the traditional big company marketing, resulted in super inflated prices. In a light bulb moment, we saw the potential to streamline the distribution channel and shake up the ski & snowboard goggle market.

After hours of weighing up the risks and possibilities, we decided in 2013 to implement our own eyewear product designs and started our own company. The first test models had to survive an entire season of use by several Austrian National Certified Ski Instructors (Philipp is one himself). After successful results, the first order was placed in the Summer of 2014 and finally two months later, the much anticipated first delivery arrived to our shared apartment in Austria.

As a real "garage startup", goggles were stored in the rooms and basement of our shared apartment and advertised and sold on a super slim marketing budget via our first online shop. The daily winter commute to the post office before lectures became the favourite part of our day. Fast forward to today and we have satisfied thousands of customers around the world. We are proud of our small but tight NAKED Family, who together with us capture and share the most beautiful moments on the mountain.
